The blue whales nervous system is quiet impressive if you think about it. This amount of energy that this creature uses just to move its body must be incredible. the blue whales nervous system is much like ours in the sense that it is controlled by the brain. The blue whale has a brain stem that is shielded in a spinal cord that sends out them signals that control the body. Blue whales control control all of there actions. they even have to consciously breath. Unlike humans how breath involuntarily, blue whales, and the other whale species and dolphins, have to consciously breath. whales are thought by some people to be smarter then humans. Though not many people have investigated a blue whales brain specifically, the smaller whales show us that that could have 2.5 times more neurons then the average human. The brain power they have is incredible and very close to humans on a relative scale. They use this brain power to move there massive muscular system. Scientists believe that the brain to body ratio is key to how an animal can live like they do. If a creature has a simple or small body the brain power will be greatly less then what other creatures have. If a creature has a massive body plan that needs both broad and precise control over its body, the creatures brain will have to be relatively larger to meet the needs of its body. this way it can sense its environment better. The blue whales brain is however not the largest in the world a smaller whale has claimed that title, the sperm whale. non the less the complexity of the blue whales brain and nervous system are still impressive and greatly underestimated.
